KYNASTON
The KYNASTON side of the family is extensive, and has been well-researched by others: Rob GASKELL whose excellent tree available on the net is extensive and very informative and Bob’s history background has served him well. I am profoundly grateful to him. Also to Roger MOTT, a relative who has written a whole book on the KYNASTONs as they go down to the MOTT side and this is also very-well researched and extremely informative [history background again!] to this tree. If I have got anything wrong, I am sure Georgina KYNASTON, also very knowledgeable and a good friend and who has much of this side of the family as a tree on Ancestry, will correct me.
We have between us a huge amount of information on this family, much of which will be added over time to this site. A diary covering 55 years, two divorces, a bank collapsing, sadly some slave trading, a “Robin Hood” type who stole from the rich to give to the poor, it is all there, along with wills and other documents. Contact me directly and I can help, as can Georgina and the others!
As can be imagined, early information is often sparse and difficult. But mostly the KYNASTONS are in Shropshire, although clearly marrying into folk in Wales. It is interesting for this family tree that another major branch also emanates from Shropshire, the ROWLEY side, and we can trace them back to William De ROULOWE who we think came over with William the Conqueror. It leaves me wondering- surely these families knew one other? So Val PEASE marrying John Arthur DODGSON may be uniting two very separate branches but whose Shropshire ancestries knew each other. One more point- you will see Elizabeth GREY in the KYNASTONs below, and the GREY family are indeed distantly related to the PEASEs and it was at the GREY house in Northumberland where Howard PEASE first met Marna KYNASTON. To make it more complicated there is a Katharine LLOYD married into the KYNASTONs - but the LLOYD family in Wales is huge, so probably not related!
[Quick note on name links: Henrietta Oakeley [sister of Georgina] married John Mott; Capt William Gaskell married Elizabeth Kynaston, dau of Thomas Kynaston and Ann Jones]
Below is a tree for Marna plus three generations back followed below it by 19 generations of KYNASTONs in the direct line of ascent.
