The BARNETT family are interesting. William 1 HARVEY married Rebecca BARNETT in 1820 in Glasgow, but her sister Sarah BARNETT married William’s brother Robert HARVEY in 1834 in Belfast. We know that at least some of the BARNETT family in Northern Ireland were Calvinists so tried to see when they came to Ireland and from where- it is now clear that many of the ancestors on the BARNETT side emanate from Scotland, probably in the 1600s when many protestants left Scotland to try for new work in Ireland.

Trying to find out how the HARVEYS in Yoker knew the BARNETTs has involved newspaper articles and histories of particular areas near to Belfast: for example we have found Andrew John Barnett, a merchant in Belfast, selling whiskey from Yoker [William HARVEY’s distillery] in the early 1800s. By the early 1800s the BARNETTs had become of some importance in the Belfast area as they were importing Whiskey from Yoker in Glasgow.

We were struggling to get Jane GIBSON verfied as there is little evidence on the various trees on Ancestry etc. to support her as an ancestor, and eventually we found her will. Below are the main lines in the BARNETT family so far- we know there are LIVINGSTON relatives in Scotland [going back via Rebecca WHYTE], but still are trying to establish the links.
