PRINGLE

PRINGLE is a surname of a family line that married into the ROBERTON side of the HARVEY family. They come from round the borders, part of the time on the English side when George PRINGLE wwas farming south of the border in the Northumberland Hills and returned to Yetholm to have three daughters [Susan, Christian and Beatrix] all baptised together in 1769 in Scotland.

A family member descended from James ROBERTON and his first wife Mary OLIVER still lives and farms at Yetholm in a very remote location in the borders.

Since George PRINGLE and his wife had only daughters as far as we can see, then the surname ends these, but we have added a generation to show how they relate to the ROBERTON family in the generations shown below. William PRINGLE married Mary BURN and had two sons: George and Joseph.

George PRINGLE (ca 1727- 1795) married Margaret WALKER (ca 1730- 1780) and they had six daughters: Sophia, Mary, Beatrix, Susan, Elizabeth Walker, Christian.

Christian PRINGLE (1764- 1853) on 9 July 1787 at Roxburgh married Andrew ROBERTON (1756- 1830) and they had ten children: Margaret, Betty, Andrew, George, John, William, James, Pringle, Mary and Christian.

James ROBERTON (1800- 1881) on 31 Oct 1849 at Roxburgh married his second wife Mary Anne DARLING (1818- 1893) and they had five children: Mary Jane, Jane Pringle, Ellen Margueretta, Agnes Christian and Elizabeth Kay. James had earlier on 22 Nov 1831 at Yetholm married Mary OLIVER (1809- 1848) and they had had six children: Andrew, Margaret Richardson, Robert Oliver, James, Robert, George.
